What scenario where you asked to work to? / What were the key media language skills you were trying to demonstrate?
The scenario we were asked to work to was that we had to film a person opening a door, crosses a room and sits down in a chair opposite of another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. By doing this we had to include:
- Match on action - A cut in which two parallel actions are mirrored in order to suggest a strong relationship between two shots.
- Shot/reverse shot - A cut used to show the viewer something not immediately visible.
-The 180-degree rule - everything must stay on a 180 degree line, and you cannot pass it.
Who did you work with to plan and film?
To work, plan & film this project I worked with two of my fellow classmates Ashley and Zahra. We allocated each other certain sections of the story to plan out and draw up on a storyboard. We used a story board to help guide us through filming using it a strict prompt whilst filming. Zahra drew the first section, I drew the middle section and Ashley drew the third section and together we had our complete story to work to.
When it came to filming Ashley and myself took the role of being the characters presented in the continuity exercise and Zahra took the role of being the camera women.
How successful was this grouping?
This grouping I would say was quite successful because we did work very well with each other and took into consideration everyone's personal thoughts and opinions whilst filming. Our personality's as a group goes well together allowing us to work as best as we can and still at the same time have some fun! The fact that I had worked with one of my group members already was good because we both already know how we act/behaviour when we are filming and are comfortable around each other so there is no awkwardness and everything is very natural. The member who I had already worked with was Ashley and she was the person who was also in front of the camera with me making it more easy for me, as I'm not really such of a big actor.
How did you use your creativity to develop the scenario?
I used my creativity to develop the scenario by firstly I originally had many ideas when I first heard about the brief. The idea my group and I decided to go with was the interrogation scene, where two girls had broken into an important office and searched for some files, and had stolen them but had gotten caught on camera. And brought in to be interrogated. To develop the idea we thought of the area's we could shoot, and use them to our advantage. For example we used a nearby police station to shot our establishing shot, and we used to to our advantage by making sure we capture everything making the scene more realistic.
How useful was your storyboard? What did you change and what did you stick to?
The storyboard was very useful, because it acted as a basic guideline to where we were going to film and what we had to do. The storyboard was used as a guide as I have said before but when we had an idea we would film it and add it in the story later. What we changed was the first time we had to shoot we broke the 180 degree rule and when it came to out first editing session we realised that so we had to go film it again using a different character as the inspector. What we stuck to was basically the majority of the storyboard not altering many things.
